The World Around Us
This faculty incorporates the subjects of History, Geography, Religious Education and Modern Foreign Languages.
Intent: The world around us curriculum aims to inspire in pupils, a curiosity and fascination about the world and the people in it, that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Pupils will learn about the world we live in, the natural and man made features of our planet, and how humans interact within it. Pupils will explore cultures of people, past and present from around the globe exploring their history, religion and languages. The curriculum also offers opportunities for the pupils to look to the future, and how they can support a tolerant and sustainable world for generations to come. The curriculum offers broad and balanced learning that can be adapted around the individual, and promotes curiosity, critical thinking and responsible citizens.
Implementation: The World Around Us curriculum takes a holistic approach, where all subjects within the faculty are interwoven. So often, clear links can be made between history, geography, language and RE when exploring the world and its peoples. The World Around Us sees the faculty subjects as a collective whole, where they balance together to provide the best learning opportunities for our pupils to develop the knowledge and skills to be citizens of planet earth. Learning is delivered through topic based learning alongside Creative arts and the STEM following a carefully sequenced long term plan. The planned curriculum has the flexibility to meet the needs of all learners on all pathways.
Impact: Learners gain a greater understanding of the world around them and their place in their local communities and the wider world. They develop greater self confidence and awareness as well as tolerance and understanding of different cultures, religions, races and beliefs.
